Understanding Research

A website created to demystify research and provides resources such as video tutorials, a glossary of research terms, and a guide for reading research articles. The website is organised into the following sections:

• An introduction to science, research, patient-oriented research, and participatory research;
• An introduction to research ethics;
• An introduction to literature reviews;
• An explanation of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research;
• An introduction to evidence synthesis and dissemination.

This website was developed with and for patient partners, and underwent multiple rounds of user-centered evaluation. Understanding Research is valuable in the context of patient partnerships and patient-oriented research; it can also contribute to the public’s understanding and trust in science. This website is a collaboration between the Unité de Soutien SSA Québec, the Centre of Excellence on Partnership with Patients and the Public, and the Chronic Pain Network.
