Compassionate Communities
The CEPPP is collaborating with the Canada Research Chair in Partnership with Patients and Communities on the Compassionate Communities project. Developed in the mid-2000s, the Compassionate Community approach to palliative care offers a community and health promotion perspective on end-of-life, capitalizing on the synergy between the strengths of the community and the health care system.
The Compassionate Community expands the circle of support for patients and families facing a terminal illness by mobilizing community members in mutually supportive relationships.
The main objective of the Compassionate Communities project is to co-construct, implement and evaluate in a participatory manner two pilot compassionate communities in Montreal, from an action research perspective.
This project will allow us to better understand how the effects of compassionate communities vary according to the characteristics of the communities in which they are implemented, in order to inform the adaptation and scaling up of compassionate communities elsewhere in Quebec and in Canada.
